Charles MacBride, AIA, NCARB, CPHC® is an educator and an architect. He teaches at the University of Texas at Arlington and maintains a small practice. He has been focused most recently on passive building, both in the classroom and in his own work. Currently he is collaborating with the UTA design build team on
a micro-community of tiny homes that will provide a series of case studies built to various certification standards. Previously he led a student team in the design and construction of a certified passive house in South Dakota.
MacBride has been recognized with awards in sustainability, design, urbanism, and research. He has taught at South Dakota State University, Iowa State University, and the University of Colorado Denver. As part of the SDSU faculty he helped to establish a new, accredited degree program by leading initiatives in passive building, community outreach, and professional studies. He is plagued by the anonymity of being a generalist with interests across the spectrum of architectural education, advocacy for the built environment, understanding artistic technique and production, contemporary history, and related creative fields such as cinema with a particular hang-up on Alfred Hitchcock. When given a chance, his design studios spend time modelling lightweight structures, scaffolding, armatures, infrastructure, and modular buildings. Originally from upstate New York, he holds degrees in architecture from Penn State and Columbia University.
